Mandatory Annual Senior Parent Meeting

We want to invite you to our Mandatory Annual Senior Parent Meeting on the evening of Wednesday, September 13th from 6:00-7:00 PM on the Yes Prep West Campus. We ask that you please arrive on time. Counselors will provide you with an overview of the college application process, important dates, and academic requirements for graduation. We are excited to start this year with your student and look forward to seeing you there! Below you can find an agenda of the Senior Parent Meeting.

Parent Meeting Agenda:

5:00-6:00 PM: Cap and Gown Purchase (RM 201)

• Students will be able to purchase class rings, caps & gowns, and Leatherman jackets.

6:00-7:00 PM: 12th Grade Family meeting

• Meet and get to know your student’s College Counselor
• Learn about the college application process.
• Receive financial aid information.
• IMPACT Program
• Graduation requirements and important dates for seniors.
• Ask questions.

We ask that you please arrive on time. Counselors will provide you with an overview of the college application process, Junior Spring Trip Information, important dates, and academic requirements for graduation.

Upcoming Dates:

MANDATORY Junior SAT will take place on Saturday, December 2nd, 2023, for all Juniors.

Dear Marvel Families,  

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! We cannot wait to welcome you and your students to West for the first day of school on August 15th.  At YES Prep West, we believe that all of our students deserve access to a rigorous academic education that prepares them to succeed in any post-secondary pathway. We commit to ensuring that all West students are college-ready by the time that they graduate. Each year, your students will learn, grow, and build the skills that will set them up for success in the future.  

As we launch this school year, we want to share some important dates: 

• August 10th: Back to School Night from 4-7pm. 

• August 15th: First Day of School (School hours are 8:30 – 4pm. The school building will be open at 8am)

Preparing to Return to School 

There are three actions that we want all students and families to take before August 12th. This will ensure that you are ready to go on the first day of school, August 15th.  All information about Back to School and these actions can be found on the Back to School page on the YES Prep website (www.yesprep.org/families/backtoschool) as well as our social media. 

• Annual Enrollment Forms: All returning and new students to YES Prep will need to complete Annual Enrollment forms. Annual Enrollment forms are available through your Skyward Family Access account by selecting the tile named Back-to-School Forms 23-24.  You can complete this on a computer or on your mobile device via the browser. You cannot complete the forms in the Skyward app. New families, you will be receiving an email inviting you to create an account in Skyward.  Please visit our Instagram or the Back to School page on the West website for a link to more instructions and to videos that detail how to fill out these forms. 

• School Supplies: Students will have a set list of supplies by grade level that are required for this school year. Please review and purchase school supplies using the 2023-2024 School Supply list.  

• Uniforms: West Secondary students are required to wear a YES Prep polo shirt and/or YES Prep spirit shirt five (5) days a week to strengthen school pride, unify the community and to promote a college-going culture.   On Fridays, college or university-branded items are permitted.  Families can receive the YES Prep uniform bundle (4 spirit shirts + 1 polo) at our “Back to School” event on Thursday, August 10, from 5 – 7 p.m.  Families can purchase custom West campus t-shirts and sweatshirts at the YES Prep West Front Office Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. any time after Monday, July 10. The t-shirts are $8 and sweatshirts are $15. Supplies may be limited. The full uniform policy can be found here: https://west.yesprep.org/for-families/dress-code.  

We cannot wait to welcome you back to school on Tuesday, August 15th. We would like to remind all students and families that attendance at school is required by the State of Texas. There is no virtual option for school in Texas this year and students must attend school in-person each day. If students have more than 12 absences in a school year, excused or unexcused, they will need to complete attendance recovery. If your student is ill or needs to be out, you should provide evidence to the Front Office to document an excused absence. YES Prep West has a School Based Health Clinic through Legacy Health that provides full-service healthcare to students and families. You can register by visiting the Front Office. Attendance in school every day is essential to academic performance and participation in our rich student culture.
